The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is a poker tournament series hosted in Las Vegas and sponsored by Caesars Entertainment. WSOP.com serves as the event website, and in addition to being informational in nature, it provides a full-featured online poker service powered by Caesars in Atlantic City. Due to the recent changes in New Jersey online gambling laws, WSOP.com is now legally able to offer its products and services to all NJ and Nevada residents.
Why Play at WSOP.com?
Legality of Online Poker
Online poker and online gambling in general became much more difficult to play for US residents after the federal government passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA). The UIGEA caused many online gaming sites to abandon the US population entirely because of the new laws forbidding gambling related bank transactions. It didn’t restrict U.S. citizens from playing online poker through offshore services, however.
U.S.-based companies in the gambling industry suffered because they simply couldn’t compete. In November 2013, New Jersey sought to overcome this by passing laws legalizing online poker. These laws cannot supersede the federal laws, so the U.S.-based poker sites can’t provide service to U.S. citizens beyond the state borders, but it does at least allow the casinos to earn business from their local client base.
The WSOP brand is arguably the most recognized poker brand in the world. It’s highly visibly, particularly due to the Main Event being televised on ESPN, and it has a strong presence in casinos around the world. It’s also tightly coupled with the Caesars brand, which is part of American culture and has played an important role in the evolution of both Las Vegas and Atlantic City. The online poker services provided by WSOP.com are co-branded with the World Series of Poker and provide a number of exclusive perks, such as playing alongside WSOP champs or winning seats at coveted WSOP events.
WSOP.com uses a proprietary software that users must download and install in order to access the poker network. The desktop client supports Windows XP or later and Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later. WSOP.com also has a mobile version of the client that supports iOS and Android. There’s also a Facebook app, which is an option when the desktop client and mobile app aren’t suitable. For American players, the software includes a geo-location component that verifies a player is playing from within New Jersey or Nevada borders.
The WSOP client allows players to participate in multiple games at the same time, and there are tools available that allow moving between the various simultaneous games quickly and easily. It also has a powerful filter and search mechanism that players can use to navigate the game and tournament lists. In addition, it has a wide range of table personalization options, and those choices persist between sessions. Note that the mobile and Facebook experiences are robust but not as full featured as the desktop client.
WSOP.com Welcome Bonus
WSOP.com doesn’t offer a traditional deposit bonus. It does, however, offer Welcome Week freerolls to all new clients that deposit at least $10. Once the deposit is made, the new client receives seven tournament tickets. The tournaments take place at 4:00 PM EST, have a $100 prize pool and only have other new players as participants. New clients have seven days to use their tickets and can use them all in a single day if they choose.
In addition, WSOP.com offers a daily $100 freeroll open to new and established clients alike. It starts at 4:45 PM EST each day and is capped at 600 players, so it’s important to claim a seat before they’re all gone. WSOP.com does support playing multiple tables, so if the Welcome Week freeroll extends beyond 4:45, you can play it and the daily freeroll at the same time.
WSOP Poker Rewards
WSOP.com provides members with a lucrative reward program it calls Action Club. Each time a member pays a tournament buy-in or contributes to the pot during a real money hand, he or she earns Action Player Points (APPs). WSOP.com awards two APPs for each $1 in tournament fees paid and two APPs for each $1 in rake collected, and it awards them in fractional amounts.
APPs serve two purposes. The first purpose is conversion into bonus dollars, and each APP is worth $0.01. The second purpose is that all APPs accumulated in a month dictate a player’s reward tier: Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Elite and Seven Stars. Reward tier provides access to exclusive tournaments and determines the rate at which the client earns points. The multiplier is 4.0x at Silver tier and 15.0x at Seven Stars tier.
It’s also worth noting that, along with most NJ-based online casinos, WSOP.com is a member of Total Rewards. That means that clients can use their APPs, called WSOP Points in this sense, as bonus money at participating casinos, and they can use rewards from those casinos at the WSOP poker tables.
A Strong Choice for NJ & Nevada Residents
WSOP.com is a strong choice for NJ and Nevada residents because the poker service is licensed and regulated by the state of New Jersey and Nevada. WSOP.com is able to deal easily and directly with US-based banks, which means that deposits and withdrawals occur easily, quickly and without fees.
